!!! -> From what you are saying I think you may have an issue with the tweeter amp. The highs ARE pronounced and open, but "sibilance". My tweeters hiss as well (like all tweeters), but I don't hear it unless I get 6 inches or closer to the speaker. I've had my Solo6's in my home studio for a few weeks now and I cannot relate to ANY of the problems you are having. So, anybody with similar experiences? I guess I'm trying to figure out if I should keep these and wait them to evolve, or should I give up and send them back to the store. So, what do you think - do I have a faulty pair of speakers, or are most of these raving reviews manufactured by the Focal advertizing team? If not, then I would like to know if there's somebody else who also heard this troubling harsh top-end, until, after some mysteriously long break-in period, the speakers went through a metamorphosis and became "open, transparent and accurate". Also, the tweeters give a nasty hiss I can hear sitting two meters away from the speakers. Takes almost a 2 dB boost/cut to hear any change. And EQ? With my ancient Genelec 1030s I can hear 0.3 dB EQ changes easily. The stereo image is fine, but it's plain flat - no 3D depth here. Singers have a serious sibilance problem, hi-hats and cymbals sound as if made from tin foil and previously woody snares sound now thin and splashy!? Acoustic guitars are all 4.7k, so sharp you could cut glass with the sound.

Suddenly all my favorite records sound like an ice pick jammed in my ear.

My own mixes sound like crap through solo 6 BE's and mixes made by great guys like Al Schmitt sound like crap as well. But the area above 2k, particularly 4k-8k sounds really harsh and scratchy. And I guess the speaker sounds pretty okay all the way up to 2kHz. Well, the bottom end is fine - tight, punchy, articulate. Well, I've had them for about a week now, completed the break-in period of 30 or so hours and I have to tell you, I don't completely agree with the reviews. No music store in my home town had solo 6 BE's available, so I did the stupidest thing a man can do - I ordered them from a reliable store without hearing them first. "The best speaker in its price range." "Open, transparent and accurate." "Finally I can hear the compression, reverb tails, etc." Most of it was only high praise and hallelujah. I purchased a pair after reading quite a lot of reviews about them.
